Clean eating is not only for those who want to lose weight or look better.

It is a complete lifestyle change.

Clean eating means following a set of principles in eating intended to become fit and achieve a healthier body.

Eating that huge cheeseburger from the fast-food chain may indeed be appetizing.

However, if you think about it carefully, everything on it, whether the sauce, the patty, or the bun, was made in a laboratory and underwent factory processing.

It has been bombarded with preservatives and artificial colors to help it achieve that appetizing look.

But eating this pretty cheeseburger will never be considered “clean eating.”

 

What is Clean Eating?

Clean eating is a lifestyle.

It’s about being mindful of the food that we eat and what they’re really made of.

It’s about choosing natural and whole foods over processed and refined ones.

It’s about making choices that will not only benefit the appearance of the body but also the overall health of it.

Some people who decide to eat clean change up a few choices in the food that they eat.

Some completely change their ways and start a new chapter of their lives, a better and healthier chapter.

Either way, here are what you need to remember in order to stay on track.

 

Drink Plenty of Water

You’ve probably been told to “always drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water a day” before and probably thought that’s just too much to handle.

Water is essential to our body’s health as it helps keep our body fluids balanced.

It not only hydrates the body but also helps the muscles develop and perform better.

While we may not necessarily need at least 8 glasses of water, we shouldn’t ever just leave it behind.

Always make sure to drink enough water or other fluids each day.

If you’re having a hard time keeping up with the “8-10 glasses of water a day” practice, you can also go for a different kind of fluid.

Teas, preferably herbal or green, is very beneficial to the body.

Green and herbal teas contain a lot of nutrients and antioxidants that help cleanse the body naturally.

You can also choose to add a little bit of flavor to your water for a change.

Lemons, limes, cucumbers, etc. are just a few of the choices that you can choose from.

Albeit natural in its form, black coffee isn’t exactly ideal to replace the fluid loss inside our bodies.

It is best to choose the more natural fluids.

 

Stay Away from Added Sugars

As previously mentioned, eating right is about choosing whole, unrefined foods over refined and processed ones.

You don’t necessarily have to starve yourself or restrict yourself from eating.

You don’t have to avoid any kind of food group, you just have to choose foods that are in their natural state.

This is why you need to stay away from added sugar because foods in their natural state do not have added sugar.

Foods that contain added sugar only mean that they’ve already gone through a manufacturing process and have already been altered in some way.

Foods that contain added sugar can crash your energy levels and make you feel drained and hungry.

So instead of choosing chocolate bars and candies as sources of sugar, choose foods that have good sugar such as:

  • pure honey
  • apples
  • bananas
  • carrots
  • pineapples

It is extremely tough to avoid added sugar, especially when you’re craving, but it can be done with enough perseverance.

 

Comb through the Supermarket Thoroughly to Find Healthier Options

There are so many different stores and markets with different selections of whole and natural foods.

In the market, you’d be able to see fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, lean meat, baked goods made of whole-grain, and many more.

Allow yourself to be as comfortable as you can whenever inside one.

Look around and observe the different healthy options, but stay strong and do not succumb to temptations.

Try to comb through the sections and list down whatever you think would be a good combination of food.

As much as possible, stay away from sections that contain chocolates and candies, beer and wines, desserts and dairy foods, etc.

It is also a great practice to go market hopping when you have the time so as to compare the selections in every store.

 

Include Plenty of Fresh Produce

Regardless of what kind of diet you’re going with, whether low-carb or high-carb, low-calorie or high-calorie, low-sugar or high-sugar, always make sure to include fresh produce in your diet as much as you can.

Eating fresh foods make every diet better and healthier.

Vegetables provide nutrients and vitamins and fibers that can not only make you feel good but also look good.

Taking supplements will never be equal to eating actual veggies and greens.

If you want to stay on the right track, then forget about dieting at all.

Clean eating is not a temporary ordeal wherein you’re just gonna stop the moment you see a difference or the moment you feel like your body goal has finally been achieved.

Clean eating is a lifestyle, a dedication that you’re going to carry on until the end of time, hopefully.

You don’t need to be too hard on yourself and completely stop eating foods that taste good, but you are expected to cut back on processed foods.

Natural foods don’t automatically equate to tasteless foods.

You can, and you must find a way to make healthy and whole foods taste good.

There are so many ways you can do that, and the internet is always there to help you.

Step out of your comfort zone and start pushing your limits.

Take charge of your own life and never rely on anyone else to feed you.

No one is going to care for you more than yourself.
