Breast enhancement is one of the most popular types of plastic surgery. It is no secret that a woman’s breasts are one of her best assets.

Thus, it is not surprising why countless women all over the world want to enhance the appearance of their breasts.

Breast enhancement doesn’t just mean enlargement.

Some women are already born with full breasts and would actually prefer breast reduction. Some just need breast revision.

Note, however, that breast revision can also be done for men.

This article discusses the five types of breast enhancement plastic surgeries and what you need to know for each.

Breast Lift – Everything You Need to Know

Breast lift involves lifting the breasts via surgery to make them look firmer.

This surgical procedure is medically called “mastopexy.”

Usually, it is conducted together with a breast reduction or breast enlargement procedure.

Cost

The cost of a breast lift procedure varies depending on the country where you will have it done.

In addition, the cost would depend on whether you decide to have a breast reduction or enlargement with it as well.

Usually, if you decide to include either procedure with the breast life, you can save between 50-80%. In Asia, a breast lift procedure costs somewhere between $3,000 to $4,000.

Suitability

You can be a candidate for breast lift if you aren’t happy with the size of your breasts and if your breasts aren’t firm or are not uniform in size.

However, if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or intend to get pregnant or breastfeed in the future, breast lift surgery isn’t for you.

Pre and Post Surgery

Your chosen surgeon will give you some instructions on everything you need to do and know prior to surgery.

However, as a general rule, anyone who wants to undergo a breast lift procedure will be asked to follow the instructions below in the days or weeks prior to surgery:

  • Consume a nutritious and well-balanced diet.
  • Quit smoking.
  • Stay away from certain medications that can increase bleeding, such as aspirin.

The surgery will take one to three hours to finish.

Once the surgery has been completed, you will also have to make sure of the following:

  • You are not allowed to drive so you need someone to pick you up.
  • You need plenty of rest and sleep. When sleeping, you must lie flat on your back.
  • You are not allowed to do any household chores for two weeks. You need to have family members or relatives with you to help you with everything.

Recovery

You will be under anesthesia during the surgery. Once the effect wears off, you will most likely feel some pain.

You can anticipate being covered with bandages on the areas where the surgery was done.

You may also experience some fluid drains from your body for the next few days.

As mentioned earlier, you cannot engage in any strenuous activities such as household chores.

However, you are encouraged to stand or walk around the house. This will help speed up the healing process.

Some of the stitches will be removed after one week, continuing gradually over the next two more weeks.

You may be able to resume majority of your daily activities after several weeks.

However, it could take up to half a year before you are healed completely.

Breast Enlargement – Everything You Need to Know

As the term suggests, breast enlargement involves enlarging the size of your breasts.

Other terms for it are “breast augmentation” and “augmentation mammoplasty.”

Women usually choose this surgery when they want to increase their bust size, or to restore the volume of their breasts that was lost when they lost weight or after childbirth.

Cost

Breast enlargement can cost anywhere from $3,200 to $5,000.

You can usually save up to 50% if you choose to have it done abroad.

The packages offered already include airfare and hotel accommodations.

Suitability

Breast enlargement can help:

  • Reconstruct the appearance of your breasts after mastectomy
  • Boost your confidence
  • Improve your body’s appearance
  • Help in balancing your body proportion
  • Increase your bust size and volume

It should be noted though that if you have breasts that are dropping severely, breast enlargement is not enough.

You may need to undergo a breast lift procedure as well.

Pre and Post Surgery

Your chosen surgeon will give you some instructions on everything you need to do and know prior to surgery.

However, as a general rule, anyone who wants to undergo a breast enlargement procedure will be asked to follow the instructions below in the days or weeks prior to surgery:

  • Stay away from certain medications that can increase bleeding, such as aspirin.
  • Consume a healthy and well-balanced diet.
  • Quit smoking because this increases your risk of developing complications.

The surgery will take one to two hours to finish. It can be conducted either through implants or through fat transfer.

In fat transfer, extra fat will be taken from other parts of your body and will be injected into your breasts.

This option is more expensive than implants.

Once the surgery has been completed, you will also have to make sure of the following:

  • You are not allowed to drive so you need someone to pick you up.
  • Wear only loose clothing and comfortable footwear.
  • You need plenty of rest and sleep during your first night after surgery. When sleeping, you must lie flat on your back.
  • You are not allowed to do any household chores for two weeks. You need to have family members or relatives with you to help you with everything.

Recovery

The recovery period for breast enlargement is rather faster than that of other plastic surgery procedures.

You shouldn’t engage in any strenuous physical activity for a week or so.

Furthermore, expect to have some bandages and drainage tubes that will be taken off after a couple of days.

Usually, you would be able to resume majority of your normal routine after two weeks.

However, you should wait for one to two months before doing any heavy lifting.

Breast Reduction – Everything You Need to Know

Breast reduction, as the term suggests, involves decreasing the size of the breasts.

This procedure is not only for women but also for men.

Cost

A Breast reduction procedure in Asia costs anywhere from $2,500 and $6,500.

You can save even more when you choose packages that include airfare and accommodations.

Suitability

Some men have full breasts, more often referred to as “man boobs.”

Having man boobs are not very masculine and many men opt to undergo breast reduction.

If you are experiencing the same problem, breast reduction may be the answer.

Likewise, some women are born with naturally large breasts that can sometimes look or feel uncomfortable.

Or one breast can be much bigger than the other, so one needs to be reduced in size.

If you are experiencing any of these issues, it might be a good idea to undergo breast reduction procedure.

Pre and Post Surgery

Your chosen surgeon will give you some instructions on everything you need to do and know prior to surgery.

However, as a general rule, anyone who wants to undergo a breast reduction procedure will be asked to follow the instructions below in the days or weeks prior to surgery:

  • Undergo an ECG, chest X-ray, and mammogram (if you are 40 years old and above).
  • Consume a healthy and well-balanced diet.
  • Quit smoking at least six weeks prior to the procedure.
  • Achieve certain lifestyle changes and weight goals to decrease your risk of developing complications.
  • Stay away from certain medications that can increase bleeding, such as aspirin.

The surgery will take one and a half to three hours to finish, depending on how much breast tissue needs to be removed.

The procedure will also be finished faster if there is more than one surgeon doing the procedure.

Once the surgery has been completed, you will also have to make sure of the following:

  • You are not allowed to drive so you need someone to pick you up.
  • Wear only loose clothing and comfortable footwear. Your clothes should be loose enough that you won’t have to lift your arms above your head to wear or remove them.
  • Consume nutritious foods.
  • You need plenty of rest and sleep during your first night after surgery. When sleeping, you must lie flat on your back.
  • Do not engage in any strenuous physical activity for at least seven days.

Recovery

Recovery time varies from person to person. Expect that you will be covered in bandages and experience surgery drains.

The bandages will be taken off within one week.

For the first couple of days after surgery, it is normal to feel tender, sore, or stiff.

During this time, you are encouraged not to move as much as possible.

After ten days, the stitches will be removed. The bruising and inflammation should have started subsiding by this time.

However, it will take a couple more weeks before you can resume most of your normal routine.

It will take a few months before you are allowed to do any heavy lifting.

You will be completely healed after six months from the time of surgery.

Breast Revision – Everything You Need to Know

Breast revision is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of breast implants.

Cost

The costs for a breast revision procedure range from $3,400 to $4,000, depending on where you choose to have it done.

Suitability

One of the most common reasons why breast revision is sought is due to complications from another breast implant surgery.

For example, the implants could move out of its intended position, leak, or if the tissue surrounding the implants tighten.

It is also sought if you have lost or gained weight considerably that you experience changes in your breast tissues.

Another reason is if you want to replace your breast implants with a different size.

Lastly, you can opt for breast revision if you simply want your breast implants removed completely.

To be a good candidate for it, you need to be in excellent health. Your expectations of the result also need to be realistic.

Pre and Post Surgery

Your chosen surgeon will give you some instructions on everything you need to do and know prior to surgery.

However, as a general rule, anyone who wants to undergo a breast reduction procedure will be asked to follow the instructions below in the days or weeks prior to surgery:

  • Consume a healthy and well-balanced diet.
  • Quit smoking to avoid complications.
  • Stay away from certain medications that can increase bleeding, such as aspirin.

The surgery will take one to three hours to finish.

Once the surgery has been completed, you will also have to make sure of the following:

  • You are not allowed to drive so you need someone to pick you up.

Recovery

It is normal to feel tender or sore during the first couple of days after surgery.

Most of the patients who have undergone breast revision are able to return to work in just seven days.

However, do not engage in any strenuous physical activity or heavy lifting for at least one and a half months after surgery.

Breast Implants – Everything You Need to Know

Breast implants are one of the ways by which breast enlargement is done.

Cost

The cost of getting breast implants can range from $3,200 to $5,000 depending on the country where you’ll have it done.

Suitability

Breast implants are suitable for anyone who wants to achieve the following:

  • Breast reconstruction after surgery such as mastectomy
  • Improve the appearance of breasts that are severely sagging
  • Boost your confidence and improve your overall image
  • Increase the volume and size of your breasts

However, for breasts that are severely sagging, breast implants might not be enough.

It is recommended that you also undergo a breast lift procedure.

Pre and Post Surgery

Your chosen doctor will instruct you on what you need to do and know prior to surgery.

However, as a general rule, anyone who wants to undergo a breast reduction procedure will be asked to follow the instructions below in the days or weeks prior to surgery:

  • Consume a healthy and well-balanced diet and stay away from food high in sodium.
  • Quit smoking to avoid complications.
  • Stay away from certain medications that can increase bleeding, such as aspirin.

The surgery will take one to two hours to finish depending on the type of incision to be done. There are three types:

  1. Transaxillary – the incisions are made in the armpit areas.
  2. Inframammary –the incisions are made below the breasts, in the crease areas where the breasts connect with the wall of the chest.
  3. Periareolar – the incisions are made at the edges of the areolas (these are the dark areas that surround your nipples)

Recovery

You may anticipate being covered in bandages and have tubes installed for draining the surgery fluids.

Do not worry because your doctor will remove these after a couple of days.

You may be able to return to work after seven days and resume majority of your normal routine after 14 days.

However, you should avoid any strenuous physical activity for at least one and a half months after surgery.
