Large-Pores

Large, visible pores are not exactly a pleasant sight.  Just like acne, they can lower your self-confidence and make you feel uncomfortable.

Fortunately, there are a number of things you can do to effectively minimize the appearance of large pores. This article discusses these in more detail.

Egg white mask

It is believed that applying an egg white mask to your face will diminish the pores and make them look smaller.

To make this mask, combine two raw egg whites with ¼ of freshly squeezed orange juice. Apply the resulting mask to your face in a thin, even layer.

Allow the mask to sit for at least fifteen minutes. Then, rinse thoroughly with warm water. Follow up with your toner of choice. The freshly squeezed orange juice is good for making your skin look brighter.

baking-soda

Baking soda

Baking soda is known to tighten pores. In addition, it also has a drying effect which makes it useful for combatting acne.

As a matter of fact, any substance that decreases the amount of oil or sebum in your skin will also diminish the appearance of your pores.

To use this method, take a tablespoon of baking soda and mix it with just enough water to form a paste. You may apply this paste to your whole face or only to the parts where you think your pores are large.

Allow the paste to sit for up to ten minutes and let it dry. Then, rinse it thoroughly with warm water.

Follow up with your toner of choice.

Ice cubes

It has been proven that ice cubes can instantly make pores look smaller. All you have to do is rub an ice cube over your pores for about fifteen seconds or more.

This will seal the pores, tighten your skin, and make your pores look a lot smaller. However, note that you should only use ice cubes after you have already cleansed your face.

Sunblock is a must

The importance of sunscreen is often taken for granted. Even if you are not directly exposed to the sun’s rays, the ultraviolet radiation is still present and will damage the collagen in your skin if you have no sunscreen on.

Collagen plays a major role in supporting your skin. Without it, your pores can stretch, which makes them look bigger and more evident.

You need to wear a good facial sunscreen daily in order to prevent this. Choose one that’s non-comedogenic so that your pores won’t get clogged and breakouts would be prevented.

The higher the SPF content, the better. However, the minimum should be SPF 20.

In addition, if you spend plenty of time outdoors, then it is recommended that you also wear sunglasses and a hat for additional protection from the sun.

Always cleanse your face

Pores look bigger and become more obvious when they are clogged with oil and dirt. Thus, minimizing the amount of oil and dirt is very important.

This can only be achieved by cleansing your face. Ideally, you should cleanse your face twice a day: when you wake up and before you go to bed.

If you cleanse your face more than twice a day, it can cause drying and irritation. Choose a facial wash or cleanser that is sulfate-free and gentle.

Use warm water in cleansing your face, and ice-cold water for rinsing. When drying your face, do not rub, simply dab with a clean towel gently.

Never pop or squeeze your pimples or blackheads

I know it can be tempting, but never try to pop or squeeze your pimples or blackheads. Incorrectly doing so can cause more damage to your pores and make them look even bigger.

In addition, if you try to pop a blackhead, any dirt and bacteria from your nails and fingers can get transferred. This can result in the blackhead becoming worse and transforming into a swollen zit.

The best thing to do if you really need to get rid of the blackheads is to have them manually extracted by a licensed dermatologist.

Exfoliate two to three times per week

Clogged pores can sometimes happen when the oil and dirt on your skin get mixed with the dead skin cells. Thus, it is important you that exfoliate two to three times per week to get rid of any dead skin.

Choose an exfoliating scrub that contains fine beads. Those with bigger beads can be rough on the skin and cause micro scratches and tears.

If you have the money to splurge, go for a motorized cleansing brush for your face. On the other hand, if your budget is tight, you may use a clean washcloth instead.

Just rub the face on your skin gently in circular motions.

Apply a facial mask once a week

There are various types of facial masks that you can use. The best type is perhaps the clay mask.

They can help make pores look smaller by eliminating dead skin and drawing out any oil and dirt stuck inside your pores.

Clay is also capable of killing bacteria and decreasing inflammation. Clay masks have different types such as Kaolin clay mask and Bentonite clay mask.

You should choose the type that suits your skin type. Each type contains unique minerals and absorption qualities.

If you don’t know how to choose the right one for you, consider asking a dermatologist or a beautician for advice. Use facial masks once per week only.

Aside from clay masks, there are other facial masks that you can make at home to help minimize large pores.

Moisturize every night

If you regularly moisturize your skin, your skin won’t get dry, which makes pores look bigger. Go for non-comedogenic moisturizers so that your pores won’t get clogged.

Choose a fragrance-free moisturizer if you have sensitive skin or are prone to allergic reactions. Moreover, choose a moisturizer with an oil control feature if you have oily skin.

Use steam treatments

When your skin gets exposed to hot steam, the pores will open. The steam will then drain away any oil and dirt stuck in your pores.

To try a steam treatment, get a heatproof bowl and fill it with boiling water. Then, if you have acne or have acne-prone skin, add a few drops of tea tree essential oil into the water.

Position your face over the bowl close enough to feel the steam. Then, cover your head with a towel so that all the steam will be trapped.

Let your face be exposed to the steam for roughly 10 minutes. Once finished, cleanse your face, then rinse with ice cold water.
